The Store at 6th and K Street NE has been around in one form or another for over seventy years. While doing the renovations for the most recent iteration of the store, we found an old receipt dated 1941 from Southerland Dairy.  At that time, the Store was a pharmacy and general store. We want to keep with this long tradition and be your convenience store in the neighborhood. So let us know what you need and what you want, and we will try to stock it.

In addition to the beer, wine, sodas, waters, juices, dairy and impulse foods found on the first floor, we have a full complement of grocery items on the lower level. Need breakfast cereals? We got them. Dog and cat food? We got you covered. Diapers? Wipes? Toys? Check, check and check. Out of peanut butter and jelly? We have that and the bread to spread it on. Pasta and sauces, soups and nuts. Flour, baking soda, baking powder, sugar, salt, spices. Yes we also have gluten free flour, and gluten free cookies.

Need a place to sit and sip your cup of coffee? Need a wifi connection? Come on down. 

 

All the fruits and vegetables we use in our kitchen can also be purchased for your use in your own kitchen. Just ask. Need a recommendation for a wine? Or some cheese and crackers to go with that wine? Come visit us.

We have some new locally produced drinks such as Kra- a locally produced Sports Drink devised by a Georgetown University student and his two brothers.  It is an organic fruit juice based "hydration system" designed to enhance peak performance.  And, the added benefit (besides hydration) is that every sale supports disadvantaged youth sports programs across the nation.  So now you can feel good two ways.  Oh, and it tastes good.

 

Everyone likes a Cola every now and then, and we have got the two big names:  Coke and Pepsi.  But we also have some you may never have heard about, such as Fentiman's.   Fentiman's Cola is botanically brewed-that's right it is brewed using a combination of infusion and a skillful blending and fermentation of natural ingredients.   This is not your childhood cola that is simply a mixture of syrup and soda water.  Find out why many people who rate colas, and yes there are people who professionally rate colas, consider Fentiman's the best cola in the world.

Another brewed drink you can get at Old City Market that is not a beer is Kombucha.  If you have never had this, you really should try it.  Once again, it is not a kid's drink.  It is not overly sweet, but it does come in many different and interesting flavors like Cayenne, Ginger, Pomegranate, Lemon Grass, etc.  We have the ever popular GTS brand of Kombucha, but we also carry the more hard to find Health-Ade.  This is so far removed from your typical soft drink, all you have to do is look at the bottle and you will know that it is something quite different.

Oh, and speaking of botanical . . . Did you know we have a house branded line of Organic Botanical Soaps?  Ever go to the craft fairs and see the home soap manufacturers?  Great soap right?  Expensive but worth it, for something natural and good for you, right?  Well we found a manufacturer who produces only wholly organic and vegan soaps, who will sell to us at a good price, but we do the work, boxing and labeling it.  Whereas at a craft fair you may pay $8.00 for a bar of soap,at Old City Market you will pay less than one half of that.  We pass our savings on to you. Check out the soaps.

Something else to check out are the birthday and gift cards.  They are on the main floor, next to the shelves with the Books from Upshur Street Books.  You can now get your reading done while waiting for your pizza.  Want to take some wine to a friend's house?  Why not take that wine in an attractive wine bottle bag too, because you can get those too at our Store.
